Empathy challenge is one of the many events that left a very memorable impression in us. It is a "game" that makes members of each team work as a family to achieve certain daily tasks such as drawing out money from the ATM machine etc. What is so special is that everyone will have to simulate a form of disability, such as visually impaired, loss of limbs.
It tested our ability to empathise with one another, to understand the frustrations, difficulties and the disabled feel when they are trying to perform normal daily tasks.
" Everyone is important, and can help each other in one way or another. I could not see, but i could help the one with fingers lost punch the numbers on the ATM" . --- the one with loss of fingers
" It was a good opportunity for me to learn about how to handle the wheelchair and i feel more confident about any future chances to help a wheelchair bound person should he face any difficulties"
"it was an insightful way for us to put ourselves in the shoes of a disabled person, which is the most direct way to know how they might feel. It trains us to be more sensitive to what are the real needs of a disabled person."
" i didnt realise a ramp could mean so much for some people ". --- Person carrying the wheelchair bound up a flight of stairs.
" Being frustrated myself after being blindfolded for awhile, i could better understand why some blind persons may display violent actions at times" --- the "visually impaired"
